Elk Camp

Elk camp this year has been just what we needed.  With all of the difficulty of the last year, we were desperate for some peace and quiet.  Out here in the wilderness, all I can hear is the sound of the wind moving through the pines.  Just a few miles away, the sweet sound of rushing waters is soothing to my soul.  Yesterday I woke up to see several deer playing right outside our cabin.  Beautiful!

This very needed reminder of the presence of God has been medicine for my hurting heart.  No matter now difficult things may seem, God is still here.  No matter how often people hurt us, God is still love.

"For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise"

I'm Still Here!

I can't believe it's  been nearly two months since I blogged!  I guess life just got in the way of blogging.

We started school in early August and it has been going well.  I still haven't gotten used to only having two in school.  It's just too quiet without four kids around the table. But, on the up side, we do seem to get more accomplished quicker.

In September we took a trip to the mountains and enjoyed the cooler temperatures.  It is so beautiful up there!  If God ever provides a way for us to live full-time up there, I would go in a heartbeat.  I absolutely adore the sound of the wind through the pine trees.  It sounds like a creek is running.  And the air smells so fresh and clean.  Why, oh why, do I live in the desert???

The girls and I did quite a bit of canning when we got back from our vacation.  We canned pickles, banana nut bread jam, and lemon curd.  The lemon curd ended up not sealing, so it got stuck in the fridge.  I think I over-filled the jars.  We still have apples to can, and maybe pears.

VACATION

We just got back from an impromptu vacation.  We went camping (cabining) up in the White Mountains.  How peaceful!  It was probably 20* cooler up there than it is down here in the desert.  We fished and hiked and even shopped a little.  The fishing wasn't great but we did catch enough to eat.  We hadn't planned to go camping until much later this year,  but the opportunity presented itself and we couldn't resist.

Every time I looked outside at God's beautiful creation, I remembered the verse from Psalms that says "the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."  There's no place like the wilderness to remind you of the awesomeness of our God.
